Managing Risks under International Construction Contracts Seminar Held

The Lighthouse Club Asia Pacific Region, in conjunction with the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Association (IFAWPCA), the Lighthouse Club Manila Branch Inc. and the Philippine Constructors’ Association Inc. (PCA) held a one-day seminar devoted to managing risk under international construction contracts at The Peninsula Manila last October 19, 2007.

Isidro Consunji, Executive Director of IFAWPCA; Jorge Consunji, PCA President, Stewart Breakenridge of Lighthouse Club Manila and Stephen Heath of Lighthouse Club Asia Pacific Region all took turns in welcoming all the attendees and introducing the seminar and their respective organizations.

The main speaker of the seminar was John Battersby, Group Managing Director of BK Asia Pacific Ltd, who shared his expertise in risk management. Glenn Haley, Nicolas Longley, Ronan Collins followed in discussing related topics.

A lively panel discussion ensued ably chaired by Manolito Madrasto, COO of IFAWPCA and supported by all of the speakers.

Construction projects in itself alone, entail risks. Doing the project overseas certainly increases all those risks. Assessing and then managing those risks are very much imperative. The concluded seminar surely will be of great help to all the attendees in that regard.

The seminar was a success and more of this should be done in the near future. Lighthouse Club Manila will always be willing to join similar undertakings.
