Chairman's Report: Meeting with John Battersby
Latest News
John Battersby, Chairman of Lighthouse Asia Pacific, met with the chairman and five Lighthouse Club Manila board members to discuss various matters of both local and regional interest at the Manila Peninsula Hotel last February 19, 2007.
He gave us a brief history of the Club in Hong Kong and throughout the region, confirming the main objects are the promotion of friendly relationships between members in the Construction and ancillary Industries, and assistance with Charitable and Benevolent works.
The Manila attendees were Stewart Breakenridge, Gary Heard, Miguel Manzano, Angel Manzano, and Danny Connally.
John explained about the operation of the Asia Pacific LHC, and what it is trying to achieve. Basically, more interaction between all the regional clubs, and promotion of items of interest for their members. John was particularly interested in trying to set up seminars on various topics of interest to all Lighthouse members, at which costs and revenues could be shared between the AP region and the local club. For Manila, John was keen to conduct a seminar on Construction Risk Management, and suggested this be held in Manila in association with the P.C.A. The Manila Board members were supportive of this type of initiative.
John informed us of the upcoming events next month in Hong Kong, which are on 9th and 10th March, the 9th being the Hong Kong Safety Awards event, and the 10th being the APR’s next board meeting. If any Manila members are interested in attending either or both functions, the Hong Kong Club will be very happy to have us present. Just inform any Board member of your interest, and we can liase on details with Hong Kong.
We talked about the Tondo project, and Gary re-iterated the heartfelt thanks to all Hong Kong members who had not only shown an interest in the project, but were also very willing to help. John and Gary confirmed that the response had been overwhelming, but was also an indication of what the Lighthouse Club can do throughout the region, when help is required. We will continue to explore areas where regional help can be made available for this project.
John was also able to inform us how the Hong Kong Branch operated its Benevolent Fund, which is set up to financially assist distressed accident victims and their families.
We had a very cordial and informative meeting, and the Manila Board were very appreciative of John taking the time to meet us, and exchange ideas, and we all hoped this type of interaction can be sustained.
- Your Chairman
