Pub Night @ HOWZAT
Event Recaps
LIGHTHOUSE CLUB MANILA tried the recently opened HOWZAT SPORTS BAR for its February get-together. The bar, situated along Kalayaan avenue in Makati, is one of the main sponsors of the club. Howzat did exceed expectations as the delicious food served, coupled with its cozy ambiance made everyone present felt relaxed and comfortable.
This was complemented by the fantastic wines from Forth and Tay, another main sponsor.
The fund raising raffle livened the night where exciting prizes sponsored by another trustee - Miguel Manzano of Eurovek Building Solutions were given away. Income from the raffle (as there were no costs ) would all go to charity.
The unveiling of the “Lighthouse Tower” replica was the highlight of the night. This serves as the club’s charity fund meterage. The club aims to raise a hundred thousands pesos or more to send a student from Erda Tech Foundation to college in a construction-related degree. Hats off to Mr. Danny Connally and his team who assembled the Lighthouse replica. All members and guests were awed and appreciated the club’s objective of keeping them updated with the club’s activities.
Clive McGill enthusiastically sold tickets. Melody Herber of Murphy’s Makati brought additional prizes: gift certificates to Murphy’s and a basket of cheer and don’t forget, there was also a Murphy’s cap which was gladly worn by the gorgeous head of Elaine Breakenridge (the co-chairman’s daughter).
Prizes were taken mostly by ladies. Linda Boyd took home the toaster; Nancy Roxas, the vouchers from Murphy’s; Melody Herber, the blender; and Nancy Breakenridge (the co-chairman’s wife) took home a flat iron.
And the first prize? A Philips DVD Player, won by no other than Steve Phillips (LHC co-chairman). It was a fair draw, really! Tony Sutton won the electric kettle and was generous enough to donate the item back for auction and was sold to Graeme Noble.
To raise additional funds, the Football Card game from last month’s event was continued. Then, again, it was not completely filled. So, the winning team will be revealed on the next event.
On a serious side, photos from the Tondo School Project, where the Club has been focusing from the last few months, were compiled and presented. These were shown on the big screen where all the members could see as Gary Heard, explained briefly what the project was all about and encouraged everyone to take part in making Tondo dumpsite kids’ dreams a reality.
To those who helped and made this successful and meaningful night, to those who took time to join and meet Club members to share a nice chat, cold beers and festive buffet, for sharing in a noble reason that made us gather together… Thank you!
